- Chapter 10 -
"Oooo, this one is cute," Emma pulled out a turquoise colored dress and held it out for me to view.
"Nope. Too short." I replied, shaking my head with a firm negative.
"Come on, you're going to have to pick one sooner or later!" Emma sighed as she turned to face the rack again.
I peered around the store and watched on as some other girls from Horizon Heights High tried on some dresses on the opposite side of the room. Giggles filled the air as they all had a good time, laughing and joking together.
All I could think about was the price tag on all of the clothes inside this store. But it wasn't just this store, every single shop that Emma had dragged me along to today was the same. Expensive. Overpriced. Ridiculous.
"I'm just going to have to think about it," I groaned finally as Emma shoved another dress in my face. My eyes flicked to the price tag, $599.00, causing me to instantly shake my head without touching it.
"Let's head back to school then, I'll just go and pay for this. Hold this for me would, babe?"
Emma handed me her freshly squeezed juice cup and trotted across to the counter to pay for her dress. I walked out to the main strip of the shopping district and took a sip from Emma's drink. My stomach tightened as I stood there, staring blankly ahead wondering whether I would ever actually be able to get a dress for the upcoming HSE party?
"There is a dress standard for these events..."
Harmony's voice floated around and around in my head. She had found a way to torment me without even being anywhere nearby. I had no money and no nice clothes. I argued with myself about stealing a dress while no one was watching, but I just couldn't do that.
"Alrighty, my miserable-non-decision-non-dress-buying friend!" Emma bobbed up beside me, a flashy looking white bag held in her grasp. "Let's get back to school so you can finally tell me all about your little lesson with Nate Van Dyk."
Emma led the way as she snatched her drink from my hand and danced off in front of me, pulling her sunglasses down over her eyes before smacking her hand against the traffic light signal button.
"Now, did you start by making out with him? Or finish that way?" Emma teased.
I hadn't told her anything about the lesson, so I had to give it to her, not a bad guess at all!
"I don't kiss and tell, I'm sorry," I said.
My eyes lifted as I did my best to give a blank look, hiding any emotion from my voice. Emma turned to me and pulled her sunglasses to the edge of her nose, squinting slightly as she studied my face.
"You did kiss him!" She squealed, jumping up and down and gripping onto my forearm.
"Oh my god," I cowered down, doing my best to hide from the people walking by who were now staring at Emma and me. "Please
